God did his laundry by the cool celestial stream Six days of creation had left his robe unclean He scrubbed and he scrubbed but the stain could still be seen He said why did I start this dirty business? He said when I began there was no dark or light So I hung a million stars to decorate the night And filled this world with wonderful delight So tell me why did i start this dirty business? chorus: I should have stopped when I was way ahead with the earth and sky and birds and fish instead I should have stopped right then and called it good But I went too far, because i could 3.I breathed unto the dust a heart and soul and mind Which blew a hole in my intelligent design What was I thinking, how could I be so blind Oh tell me why did I start this dirty business? chorus: I should have stopped when I was way ahead with the earth and sky and birds and fish instead I should have stopped right then and called it good But I went too far, because i could He said these creatures I have fashioned out of mud require a diet of lust and greed and blood they're so tenacious, it'll take more than a flood to wash away this dirty business God did his laundry by the cool celestial stream Six days of creating had left his robe unclean He scrubbed and he scrubbed but the stain could still be seen He said why did I start this dirty business?

You call yourself a Christian, you like the way it sounds If Jesus was a refugee you’d turn his ass around And send him back to Pilot to wear a thorny crown Funny how you did not get the message You call yourself a Christian, but really who’s to say If the king of kings was uninsured you’d let him die today or lose his home all because of bills he couldn’t pay Maybe you just didn’t get the message chorus: The message is, as best as I can tell: Love your neighbor and your enemy as well Lend a hand to those less fortunate than you And always treat your brother like you wanna be treated too You call yourself a Christian, it’s something that you sell if Jesus loved another man you’d damn his soul to hell To suffer with the atheists and the Democrats as well someone ought to tell you ‘bout the message chorus: The message is, as best as I can tell: Love your neighbor and your enemy as well Lend a hand to those less fortunate than you And always treat your brother like you wanna be treated too ) You call yourself a Christian, easier said than done If Mother Mary crossed the border you would take her son and throw him in a dirty cage, before the day was done It’s a bummer that you never got the message chorus: The message is, as best as I can tell: Love your neighbor and your enemy as well Lend a hand to those less fortunate than you And always treat your brother like you wanna be treated too

How far do you have to go To call it murder in the first degree? All you need to know the man said he couldn’t breathe God’s child, a mother’s son my ears still ringing with his dyin' plea a curse on everyone the man said he couldn’t breathe justice, long denied chokin' under the white man’s knee God knows how many times the man said he couldn’t breathe Don’t need evidence the whole world saw it on a TV screen change been coming since the man said he couldn’t breathe justice, long denied chokin' under the white man’s knee God knows how many times the man said he couldn’t breathe How far do you have to go To call it murder in the first degree? All you need to know the man said he couldn’t breathe

Bad Love 03:35
It takes some powder and a tiny touch of rouge A little warpaint to cover up the bruise To hide the evidence of bad love He was a charmer, swept her off her feet Gave her the good life down on easy street Bought her a house and filled it up with bad love chorus: Now she’s holding on for a feeling that is gone And now she’s holding on to bad love She remembers the way they used to play before the sickness took it all away before her life was haunted by bad love There was a time when he could do no wrong She should have known it, should have seen it all along But she was blinded by bad love chorus: Now she’s holding on for a feeling that is gone And now she’s holding on to bad love Ooohh ooohh bad love Ooohh ooohh bad love She takes the blue pills when she needs a little help Opens the red wine and bargains with herself But you can’t cut no deal with bad love chorus: Now she’s holding on for a feeling that is gone And now she’s holding on to bad love

Great Again 03:43
Hey, do you remember way back when Your neighbor was your friend? When you spoke to people face to face And everybody knew their place? When everyone had a job And names like Brad and Bob And the folks you’d meet in the diner downtown were seldom yellow, black, or brown? chorus: Well then, mister its time to win don’t just take it on the chin Come and join the fight to restore what’s right we’re gonna be great again It’s time that we begin to be loyal to our kin we’ve been highjacked but we’re takin it back We’re gonna be great again 2.Hey, can you recall the time a cup of coffee cost a dime when boys were boys, girls sugar and spice and just two pronouns would suffice When life was precious still A plan B was not a pill It was Merry Christmas not happy holidays And teachers made their children pray chorus) Well then mister it’s time to win so grab a hat and join on in gonna build a wall 45 feet tall we’re gonna be great again It’s time that we begin To restore some discipline to this rank shithole we’ll take control we’re gonna be great again bridge: Remind me of the years That came before our darkest fears ("yes we can") The elitist snobs have had their chance Let’s kick 'em in their smarty pants Let’s rebuild the glorious past A New Order at long last send a big parade down old main street with the stars and bars on The General Lee Bring back the glory days take pride in our old ways like sweet iced tea on a big front porch and justice through a lighted torch chorus Well then mister it’s time to win so grab a hat and join on in gonna build a wall 45 feet tall we’re gonna be great again It’s time that we begin To restore some discipline to this rank shithole we’ll take control we’re gonna be great again we’ve been highjacked but we’re takin it back We’re gonna be great again

Cover your ears some things can’t be unheard big men with little words thuggish and uncouth polluting the air with a hateful refrain a carnival of pain laughing at the truth chorus) Cover your ears my little one don’t you listen to his lies Cover your ears my little one but don’t you close your eyes Cover your ears it’s a poisonous song if you sing along you’re just being used Cause he’ll start the fire that burns this house down That match happy clown don’t care nothing for you chorus) Cover your ears my little one don’t you listen to his lies Cover your ears my little one but don’t you close your eyes Cover your ears, real men don’t talk that way only cowards with no shame bullies and thieves Listen to your heart, let your love overflow ’til this mad circus show packs up and leaves chorus) Cover your ears my little one don’t you listen to his lies Cover your ears my little one but don’t you close your eyes Don't you close your eyes
7.
I wish someone would had loved you somewhere along the line It would have saved us so much trouble saved us so much time You wouldn’t have to be such a needy little bitch and you wouldn’t have to leave us bleeding a ditch I wish someone would have made you feel that you were okay We wouldn’t have to listen to you lying everyday You wouldn’t have to compensate for your tiny brain and you’d spare us all the spectacle of your psychic pain I wish someone would have hugged you and told you you belonged We wouldn’t have to listen to your sad and hateful song You wouldn’t have to sing such an ugly melody and we all could use some quiet, let your silence set us free 4.I wish someone could convince you that this is not a game It’s not about your ego its not about your name Then maybe you could find a way to climb down from your throne or maybe you could kill yourself and leave us all alone Then maybe you could find a way to climb down from your throne or maybe you could kill yourself and leave us all alone

Wet Dog 03:13
This world ain’t no place to be down on your luck stumblin’ your way through the fog searching for shelter from the wind and the rain no one wants to pet a wet dog A hole in your belly and hurt in your heart and everybody trying to run you off Whatever happened to your your place in the sun No one wants to pet a wet dog When you were younger you never went hungry you were living’ high on the hog Now your drawing the short straws no scratching that itch cause nobody wants to pet a wet dog Ahooo, ooh wandering through these empty streets alone Ahooo, ooh wishing that someone would take you home When somebody tells you every dog has his day they’re only giving you a line of talk Makes ‘em feel better to throw you a bone no one wants to pet a wet dog When you were younger you never went hungry you were living’ high on the hog Now your drawing the short straws no scratching that itch cause nobody wants to pet a wet dog Now your drawing the short straws no scratching that itch cause nobody wants to pet a wet dog

I’m dying just like every living thing dying even flowers in the springtime hoping that life won’t pass me by I’m crying like raindrops from the sky crying like that lonesome whistle whining’ hoping that a smile will get me by chorus) so please forgive me it's such a shame to speak of tears and rain on such a sunny day You’d think with all these thoughts i have i’d go insane truth is i like the rain and the light when skies are gray I’m hurting like every living soul hurting thank god for rock and roll hoping it’ll make me feel alright I’m reeling like a boxer on the ropes reeling gloves up to take the blows hoping That I’ll make it through the night chorus) so please forgive me it's such a shame to speak of tears and rain on such a sunny day You’d think with all these thoughts i have i’d go insane truth is i like the rain and the light when skies are gray I’m thinking my mind’s a ticking bomb thinking that’s always been my problem hoping someday I’ll clear my head I’m praying even though I don’t believe praying the very last trick up my sleeve hoping That it’s not a waste of breath chorus) so please forgive me it's such a shame to think of tears and rain on such a sunny day You’d think with all these thoughts i have i’d go insane truth is i like the rain and the light when skies are gray

about

In the spring and early summer of 2020, as COVID-19 spread it’s worrisome tentacles throughout the country and my livelihood was put on indefinite hiatus, I found myself with a satchel of songs, each resonating with a common theme. With a burning desire to get them recorded, I reached out across our quarantined world to find an old friend and comrade willing to lend a hand with his time and talent. The result was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. With two microphones and a laptop, I recorded my guitar and vocals simultaneously, capturing one complete unedited performance for each song. My friend, engineer and producer David Henry (R.E.M., Cowboy Junkies, Old Crow Medicine Show, Josh Rouse), then transformed these tracks from pupa to butterfly, unleashing his full range of talent and musicality. The only currency he would accept for his tremendous work on this project was a steady supply of vegetables from my large organic garden. This arrangement allowed me to fulfill one of my secret fantasies, that of being a CSA farmer! My gratitude extends beyond his indispensable help with this project. Over the past 4 years, I have felt an emotional and physical debilitation witnessing the erosion of societal norms and civility, the rising spectre of racism and hatred, the quiet death of decency, the weakening of the institutions of democracy, and the deadly assault of a virus that has claimed over 180,000 American lives so far. Over this period I have felt powerless, voiceless. The impulse to create something—to say something—and the serendipitous realization of that creative desire has restored my spirit. Now I’m ready for the fight. My friend, I am forever in your debt.
